One day when I was researching weddings in preparation for setting up my business, I was fascinated when I came across a web page about old wedding traditions that are now long forgotten. I read that a besom or broom made from Birch branches was placed across the doorway of a newly married couple to represent purity, and to protect the marriage from negative spirits. In another tradition, couples used to marry each other by jumping over a birch twig to symbolise their new beginning together in life. Birch is my surname, so I knew immediately my name would lend itself perfectly to my business in the wedding industry. Birch trees were so symbolic to traditional weddings, so now my logo is a Birch tree for this very reason!
Since then, I have read that many couples are going back to these traditional practices and having them as a part of their wedding day ceremony. I certainly wish I had known about this when I was getting married! Are you planning to bring back any old traditions for your wedding day?
